Coach Janine Simioni began swimming at age 7 for the Santa Barbara YMCA and continued her competitive career with the SBCATS where she held the most age group team records and senior records. She became the first Age Group Swimmers in Southern California to hold the most records and hold the number #1 slot for age group swimmers 5 years in a row. Coach Janine also held all the High School team records in every event for 3 years in a row. She went on to train for the 1980 time trials at the age of 15 as she excelled in the 50 and 100 Freestyle as well as the 200 IM.
After all her training for the 1980 Olympics and then being boycotted that year, Coach Janine was offered NCAA and Divison I scholarships but decided she didnt want to swim competitively but just for fun. So Coach Janine decided to continue her education by attending SBCC where she double majored in accounting and EMT schooling. She then decided she loved the medical field and went to Paramedic School where she excelled in critical care for patients. After being hired on with Mobile Life and going out on a call to the beach with a scuba diver call she decided to learn to scuba dive. It was then that Santa Barbara Sheriffs department asked her to join there scuba search and rescue team.
Coach Janine has been Head Coach and directed the RMLS Seadogs Swim Club now MESA Swim Club for the past ten years where she helped develop a successful competitive year round program while continuing to coach the summer recreational and Pre-Competitive programs. She carries a Level 4 ASCA certification and has taught over 300 kids and adults to swim.
Coach Janine retired from being an Airvac Paramedic working out of a trauma level 1 and level 2 hospitals. She also retired from the Sheriffs scuba search and rescue team after 14 fun filled years. She and her husband Mark along with their two children, Cody 18 and Jennifer 24, have lived in Mesa for the past twelve years.
