Director, Age group Coach
Coach Janine Simioni began swimming at age 7 for the Santa Barbara YMCA and continued her competitive career with the SBCATS where she held the most age group team records and senior records. She became the first Age Group Swimmers in Southern California to hold the most records and hold the number #1 slot for age group swimmers 5 years in a row. Coach Janine also held all the High School team records in every event for 3 years in a row. She went on to train for the 1980 time trials at the age of 15 as she excelled in the 50 and 100 Freestyle as well as the 200 IM.
After all her training for the 1980 Olympics and then being boycotted that year, Coach Janine was offered NCAA and Divison I scholarships but decided she did'nt want to swim competitively but just for fun. So Coach Janine decided to continue her education by attending SBCC where she double majored in accounting and EMT schooling. She then decided she loved the medical field and went to Paramedic School where she excelled in critical care for patients. After being hired on with Mobile Life and going out on a call to the beach with a scuba diver call she decided to learn to scuba dive. It was then that Santa Barbara Sheriffs department asked her to join there scuba search and rescue team.
Coach Janine has been Head Coach and director of the RMLS Seadogs Swim Club now MESA Swim Club for the past 12 years where she helped develop a successful competitive year round program while continuing to coach summer recreational and Pre-Competitive programs. She carries a Level 4 ASCA certification and loves watching the swimmers exceed at such a wonderful sportand. Coach Janine enjoys teaching the swimmers each day and see the progress they make and see the smiles on their faces when they accomplish new things and can prefect their technique.
Coach Janine retired from being an Air-vac Paramedic working out of a trauma level 1 and level 2 hospitals. She also retired from the Sheriffs scuba search and rescue team after 14 fun filled years. She and her husband Mark along with their two children, Cody 21 and Jennifer 27, have lived in Mesa for the past 16 years.
Chris M Robinson
Coach Chris first started competitively swimming and playing water polo in high school where he was the school’s first freshman varsity water polo starter, as goalie. He set the school single game save record with 25 saves, was captain, all-league player his senior year and was a varsity starter all 4 years. In swimming Coach Chris made varsity all four years, set two school records in the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Freestyle Relay, Invitational Champion 100 Butterfly, League Champion 100 Backstroke, captain 2 years, received numerous accolades for swimming and academic performance from various school and service organizations. Chris went on to swim for the bulldogs at the University of Redlands, Redlands CA where he help lead the bulldogs to their first SCIAC Championship. Coach is appreciative of his in the water and out of the water success and contributes his success to his family, hard work and club swimming.
Coach Chris has coached for 16 years, he has coached at different levels from YMCA, USA Age Group, high school and USA Masters. He has been able to start 3 aquatics programs in his 16 years of coaching, one women’s water polo team (who are now back to back state champions), recreation swim team and Higley High School’s swim and dive team where he is currently the head coach. He has coached in California, Arizona and Minnesota and has enjoyed every experience he was given to build on his own coaching philosophy (technique, technique, & fun). Coach Chris has coached school record breakers, state finalist, regional champions, and All-American swimmers.
Chris also focuses on academics as seen by Higley High Swim and Dive program being the only team in the state of Arizona to receive the National Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Association Scholar Team Award three years in a row. His knights also are the first Higley High team to receive the AIA Scholar Team Award 3 years in a row. Zach R Pointer
Age Group Coach
Coach Zach Started swimming his freshman year at Higley High School Under our Senior Coach Chris. This was Higley’s First swim team. Zach was a natural swimmer.
He was born in Oahua Hawaii near the ocean and has had a love of water ever since. He went to state all four years in high school as well as received the most valuable player award for three out of four years. Zach excelled at the 50 and the 100 freestyle which he went to state individually for and placed in the top 4.
Coach Zach also attends Scottsdale Community college studying Electrical Engineering. He plans on transferring to ASU to finish his studies with a Doctorate degree and hopes to join the ASU swim team. Just like any young swimmer, school comes before swim so Zach often leads study sessions at the pool with our age group swimmers.
Coach Zach teaches our age group swimmers and even enjoys watching our 8 and under girls have what we call "tea parties" on the lane lines.
Zach has been coaching age group swimmers for 4 years now and loves every second of it. Zach carries his USA Swimming certification, Lifeguard certification along with working on his ASCA level 2 training.
Sabrina T Newell
Age Group Coach
Coach Sabrina was always at her daughters practices watching and observing what they were doing and how she could help them when not at swim team. She was approached by Coach Janine and asked to be her assistant. Coach Sabrina has gone to swim classes and has done everything to learn how to teach the swimmers to improve for the last 10 years.
Coach Sabrina helps with our pre-comp. swimmers and our special education athletes. Her years of experience on the team have given her the know in how to work hand and hand with them and teach technique.
Coach Sabrina loves to learn and is always there for the swimmers. She carries her ACSA level 2 certification.
Age Group Coach Sabrina has lived in Arizona for 19 years. She has been married for 20 years and has 2 girls currently on MESA swim club.
Jennifer R Simioni
Age Group Coach
Coach Jennifer started swimming when she was 12 years old. She first trained with Coach Traci Hering at Red Mountain Country Club. She continued onto High School swimming where she swam for Red Mountain High School and excelled in the 50 and 100 free. After High school she then joined her Mom's team RMLS seadogs where she made State, sectionals and was close to having times fast enough for the national team. Jennifer was at that time introduced to open water swimming and has enjoyed competing. Jennifer is always in the top 5 finishers no matter how far the distance. In her age group she is always first.
Jennifer still swims on MESA Swim Clubs master team and competes in open water swims all over Arizona and California. She also enjoys mountain biking and is hoping some day to become a tri athlete. Jennifer has her associates degree in Interior Design.
Jennifer enjoys working with the 8 and under swimmers teaching them to swim and have fun. She swims in the water with swimmers to teach proper technique to the swimmers.
Coach Jennifer currently has her Asca Level 2 certification and is working on her Level 3..
Reed A Newell
Asst. age group Coach
Coach Reed began swimming at age 7 for Red Mountain Country Club recreational team. She loved to swim so much she then joined the RMLS Seadogs with Head Coach Janine Simioni.
She excelled greatly in the events 50,100, 200 yard butterfly as well as freestyle. She set many team records and made the State team her first year of competitive swimming. In 2008 Coach Reed placed in the top 5 and made Far Western times. She made sectional cuts as a 13-14 year old and placed within the top 10 in each of her events.
Coach Reed continued to swim throughout high school as well as assisting for Coach Janine to demonstrate for the age group team. At age 17 became a Certified Lifeguard, and was starting to learn how to teach children to swim under the supervision of Coach Janine.
Reed has been inspired so much by Coach Janine during the many years of assisting and swimming for her. She even conducted her senior thesis about teaching kids the essential survival skills around and in water.
Reed became a USA Certified Swim Coach in 2013 and continues to coach under Coach Janine’s wing. She helps with private lessons, group lessons and now is working with with the Greyhounds and Summer camps that MESA Swim Club runs throughout the year.
Now with 2 years of experience coaching swim lessons and age group swimmers Reed is really enjoying working with all the swimmers in the club and camps. She absolutely loves being in the water and seeing each of the swimmers have smiles on their faces and watching the progress they make with all her help. Reed currently is a USA certified coach and lifeguard working on her ASCA level 2
